Birthday Cards
Responsibility includes preparing birthday cards for every student by writing their name, date and teacher to distribute to every student on their birthday from Mr. Fujita.

Book Fair - Barnes & Noble

Book Fair - Scholastic
During both the Fall and Spring Parent/Teacher conferences Lukas sponsors a Scholastic Book Fair in the library.  Volunteers are needed to help the librarian set up and take down the book displays.

Box Tops for Education
This is primarily an at home activity.  Box Tops are collected from the box in the school lobby, trimmed, sorted and grouped together and sent to the manufacturers' center for redemption.  Box Tops earn the school cash.

Conference Dinners

Crossing Guard
To help ensure the safety of all children, several parents volunteer as crossing guards at the exit of the school parking lot before and after school.  Substitutes are also needed as the volunteers sometimes are unable to fill their shift.  This is a duty which takes only 15-20 minutes a day.

Directory Cover Contest

Directory - Student List
Responsibilities include:  receiving "Directory Information" forms from registration;   updating Excel database with any changes from the previous year, (e.g., add new students, delete students who have left, address/phone # changes, staff changes, etc.);  have another PTA volunteer proofread for mistakes; and sending hard copy and soft copy to officer who then compiles with Directory Ads to submit to printer.

Field Day

First Day of School Breakfast
Secure donations from local coffee and doughnut shops.  Ensure announcment made during back to school night and notice included in Back To School Newsletter.  Setup breakfast in the park on the First Day of School.  This is a great opportunity to focus on the Kindergarten parents and to talk with them about getting involved in the PTA.

Hearing & Vision
These volunteers are responsible for escorting students to and from their Hearing & Vision testing as well as helping through the test itself.

Ink Cartridges
Cartridges for Kids pays our school for used laser and inkjet cartridges, cell phones, laptops, PDAs and iPods.  Donations are accepted in the lobby of the school.  Responsibilities include contacting Access Computer Products to schedule monthly pickup.

Laps for Lukas

Literacy Night
Responsibilities include coordinating the Literacy Night date, location and activities; communicating to the staff, PTA, parents and students about the night; and plan and organize a variety of activities pertaining to reading and writing literacy, as well as math literacy.

Mad Science
Responsibilities include coordinating with Mad Science to set up class dates and location, communicate with the Mad Science representative and distribute flyers to teachers.

Meet-N-Greet

Membership
Responsibilities include creating and maintaining the email distribution list for the PTA members and forwarding all PTA correspondence via the list.

Newsletter
The Discovery Newsletter is published monthly, delivered to all Lukas Families and published on the Lukas website.  The editor has all material approved by the principal and formats it on the computer.  If you are interested in helping with the publication, collecting new articles, writing a parent interest column or finding advertisers, we need you!

Reflections
The National Reflections Art Show takes place in the fall.  Winners continue to county, state and national competitions.  We need help with the organization and judging of this event.

Sixth Grade Celebration

Teacher Appreciation
We show our appreciation for our teachers and staff throughout the year with teacher appreciation week, secretary's day, etc.  We need volunteers for baking/cooking, setup/cleanup, donations for prizes/gifts for teacher appreciation week and to help make phone calls as needed.

TV Turnoff Chair

TV Turnoff Kickoff Event

Volunteer Appreciation
We show our appreciation throughout the year to all our volunteers through small gifts.  Responsibilities include determining appropriate small gifts for the volunteers and for the class rooms from the volunteers and distributing those gifts.

Volunteer Coordinator
Responsibilities include: updating "Volunteer for Lukas" sign up sheet, coordinating volunteers for appropriate events, relating information to the appropriate Chair Person for each event, recording all volunteer information, keeping in touch with all volunteers, and acting as the liason between the school and volunteers.

Website
Responsibilities include creating/maintaining the PTA website.  All members are welcome and encouraged to provide feedback and submit ideas to improve the site.

Yearbook
Lukas Elementary students and families have had the opportunity to purchase a fabulous yearbook to last a lifetime.  This committee assists with the production of and collecting/taking of pictures to be used in the yearbook.

Young Writers Wall
The Young Writers Wall is a place where our students writing is showcased!  Volunteer responsibilities include initially setting up folders and a schedule for teachers outlining due dates for papers.  Monthly: The writing that was up is taken down and certificates are filled out. New writers work is hung up with their pictures and parent notification letters are sent home.
